Trash carried by a North Korean balloon fell on the presidential compound in central Seoul on Thursday, South Korean officials said. This is the second case in recent months where North Korea resorted to a Cold War-style psychological campaign.
South Korea’s presidential security service said that the balloon carried no dangerous items and was sent from across the inter-Korean border to Seoul’s Yongsan district. Experts suggest North Korea likely lacks sophisticated technology to drop balloons on specific targets, reported Telegraph India.

A local South Korean newspaper, Dong-A Ilbo, reported earlier today that the balloons contained garbage and propaganda pamphlets criticising President Yoon Suk Yeol and his wife Kim Keon Hee.
The incident follows Kim Yo Jong’s, the influential sister of the North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, claim that the authorities had discovered and removed “political motivational rubbish sent by the ROK scum,” referring to South Korea’s official name, the Republic of Korea.
North Korea had previously accused its neighbouring country of infiltrating drones to drop propaganda leaflets over Pyongyang three times in October and threatened to respond with force if it happened again.
“Seoul will have to experience at firsthand so as to know properly how dangerous [of an] act it committed and how terrible and fatal the consequences it brought on itself are,” Kim said according to a local media report on Tuesday.

South Korea has, however, refused to confirm whether it sent drones but warned that North Korea would face the end of its regime if the safety and security of the citizens of South Korea were threatened.
