The Venezuelan politician is known for her fight for democracy, human rights, and peaceful political change in the country. The Nobel Committee allegedly did not consider Donald Trump, despite his claims of ending global conflicts, given that the prize traditionally honors long-term humanitarian or democratic efforts.

A key figure in Venezuela’s pro-democracy movement, Machado emerged as a powerful symbol of civilian courage in Latin America. She has defied the repressive regime of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro amid threats, arrests, and political persecutions. The government disqualified Machado when she was set to run against Maduro in the last elections
