Leading British crocodile expert and zoologist Adam Britton admitted in a court to a total of 60 charges of bestiality which involved torture, rape, and killing of over 40 pet dog.
The case was heard by the Australian the Northern Territory (NT) Supreme Court on Monday, to which Mr Britton confessed that he tortured dozens of dogs until almost all died and filmed and posted the videos of it online, reported BBC.
The accused, who worked with BBC and National Geographic productions, also admitted accessing child abuse material online. To this, he will be sentenced at a later date. Mr Britton was arrested in April 2022, and according to police he abused 42 dogs within a time span of 18 months and of which 39 died.
During the hearing procedures, people were asked to leave the courtroom by the judge as the evidences and details of the crimes are too graphic and could cause “nervous shock”.
The 51-year-old Mr Britton is a PhD graduate in zoology and also secured a global reputation for his academic proficiency and Crocodile management expertise.
As mentioned by the prosecutors during the trial, Mr Britton had a “sadistic sexual interest” in animals since at least 2014. Along with torturing and sexually exploiting his own pets he expertly managed to manipulate other dog owners to give him their pets to take care.
“He would use the online marketplace platform Gumtree Australia to find people who were often reluctantly giving their pets away due to travel or work commitments, building a “rapport” with them to negotiate taking custody of the animals. If they reached out to Britton for updates on their old pets, he would tell them “false narratives” and send them old photos”, BBC reported.
He was abusing the animals in a shipping container, “torture room”, which he equipped with recording tools. Then he used to share the footages of the crimes online under pseudonyms, and one among them eventually passed on to the Northern Territory police who arrested Britton in April 2022. He was remanded in custody and brought back to court for a sentencing hearing in December, says reports.
