Washington DC, US: Thwarting the Democrats yet again, Republican party has won enough seats to maintain upper hand in the House of Representatives. The party has hit the 218 seats threshold out of the total of 435 seats, reported AP.
The win will not only give the party leadership over both chambers of the Congress, but will also assures that it holds a sway over all major branches of government.
The Republicans achieved an election “trifecta”, by winning control over the House, Senate, and the White House. The winnings has opened door for the Republicans to potentially enact their party platforms, with little hindrance from the left.

Former President Donald Trump won the Presidential race to the White House by defeating Democratic candidate Kamala Harris with a commanding margin. While the race was called within hours of the polls closing on the Election day, the battle for control of the House took more than a week to decide. The reason is believed to be because of large number of seats at stake and the tight nature of some individual races.
The House go up for re-election every two years, marking a star contrast with the Senate, the upper chamber of Congress. In the Senate, the terms are six years in length, and only a third of the Senators face re-election at any given time.

The contest which helped the Republicans reach the threshold of 218 seats unfolded in Arizona’s 6th congressional district, where the incumbent Juan Ciscomani defeated Krsiten Engel, a Democratic law professor.
However, the ‘trifecta’ promises no guarantee over no political infighting. Democrats laid examples for it previously. When the party held a trifecta from 2021 to 2023, certain policy priorities were stymied by internal disagreements.
