On May 21, a Singapore airline carrying over 140 passengers including the crew onboard had met with severe turbulence, causing injuries and a death by a suspected heart attack. However, the airline today, June 11, offered compensation to at least 211 travelers onboard the London to Singapore carrier. Apologising for the passengers for the “traumatic experience,” the airline, in a Facebook post, announced that it was committed to providing full “support and assistance this time.”
It was reported that during the extreme turbulence, many people on board were thrown up to the plane’s ceiling and then fell down.
Following the horrifying incident, Singapore-bound Boeing 777-300ER had made an emergency landing with all the 211 passengers and 18 crew. The flight was diverted to Bangkok and the injured passengers were then rushed to a hospital in in the city. Media house BBC, citing sources from Smitivej Hospital, reported that a total of 104 people were treated and 58 remain in hospital, 20 of whom are in the intensive care unit.
According to the statement from the airline, a compensation of 10,000 dollar was provided to those who sustained minor injuries on Monday. For those with serious injuries, the airline said, it would invite them to discuss about the compensation to meet each of their “specific circumstances when they feel well and ready to do so.”

For those who sustained serious injuries and are in long-term medical care, the airline paid 25,000 dollar for their immediate requirements, said the Singapore Airline. It further added that it will arrange travel for the family members of injured passengers to the hospital in Bangkok if requested.
The airline company also assured a full refund of the air fare to all passengers travelled the turbulence-hit flight on May 20. This also included those who did not suffer any injuries. The airline also said that the passengers will avail delay compensation in accordance with the relevant European Union or United Kingdom regulations.

“All affected passengers should have received their offers of compensation via email, along with information on how they may proceed with their claims.
