Tiruvur, Tamil Nadu: In Tamil Nadu, around 50 people gathered on Tuesday morning at Dharma Sastha temple in a village called Thulasendrapuram. Dedicated to the village’s prime deity, the temple held a pooja ceremony praying for the victory of US presidential candidate Kamala Harris’ win. The village in Tiruvur is the ancestral village of Harris.
Joining the crowd were also Arulmozhi Sudhakar, the local DMK panchayat councillor, her husband, Sudhakar, who oversaw the preparations, the local temple priest, and his aides.

Over a century ago, Harris’ maternal grandfather P.V. Gopalan was born in the Thulasendrapuram village.
The local DMK panchayat councillor stated that his village is ready to celebrate with special pujas planned for Wednesday if the early results are favourable towards Harris.
“We’ll offer prayers for her good health and host an annadanam, or food offering, with idli and sambar, her favourite food according to her close relatives in touch with the temple,” Arulmozhi said.
Notably, the DMK leader clarified that neither the party in Tamil Nadu nor Harris’ family have asked them to celebrate. The reason behind the celebrations and prayers is solely because she is “a girl from this village.”
The village came to the limelight after Harris became the vice president. Someone spotted her name on a stone donor plate at the temple and traced her family roots. Since then, the village has received aid for its development. Recently, the City Union Bank announced a Rs 1 crore grant to restore the village lake.

Sudhakar said that some of the villagers had decorated their houses with kolams, traditional floor designs, to celebrate the Democratic candidate. “We are so happy for her tenure as Vice President, and we’re confident she will win. She is the voice for women in the US, and her smile brings pride to every woman here,” he said.
According to the AP news agency, Trump has won 214 Electoral College votes against Harris’ 179 to reach the victory mark of 270. Though results have not been declared for any swing state, in early morning trends, Trump appears to be winning with 56.2 percent of votes, while Harris is trailing behind with 42.9 percent of votes. 94 percent of votes have been counted.
