US House Of Representatives Introduces Resolution To End Trump's India Tariffs

Washington, D C, United States: The United States House of Representative Deborah Ross, Marc Veasey, and Raja Krishnamoorthi introduced a resolution to block President Donald Trump’s decision to impose steep tariffs on Indian imports.

The resolution seeks to terminate the national emergency used to justify duties of up to 50 per cent. The Representatives Deborah Ross of North Carolina, Marc Veasey of Texas and Raja Krishnamoorthi of Illinois introduced the resolution on Friday, which aims to end the national emergency declared by Trump in August 2025 under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA), enabling the administration to sharply raise tariffs on goods imported from India.

The Trump’s order imposed duties up to 25% on Indian goods, pushing total tariffs as high as 50% on products like textiles and electronics amid concerns over India’s Russian oil purchases. Lawmakers argue the move disrupts supply chains, raises consumer costs, and risks jobs in states like North Carolina and Texas, while aiming to restore Congress’s role in trade policy. The measure faces steep challenges in the Republican-led House.
