The US expects Israel to attack Iran before the Presidential election on November 5. According to CNN, the attack would take place before the crucial election, which is only days away.

As a response to the killing of major Hamas, Hezbollah, and Iran leaders, Tehran launched at least 200 ballistic missiles targeting Israel on October 1. Iran claimed over 90 percent of its missiles hit the targets.

Iran’s attack came days after Israel expanded Gaza war to Lebanon killing more than 2,500 people, and injuring thousands of others.

While Tel Aviv’s attack on Tehran may not appear to be directly tied to the upcoming Presidential election, it is said that Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is aware of the attack’s potential impact on US politics.

The US has been steadfast in aiding Israel on its genocidal war in Gaza, supplying arms. Recently, Washington bolstered Israel’s areal defence system with an advanced air system called THAAD.

The rapidly growing crisis in the Middle East has added further complexities to the Presidential candidates’ campaign. The Democrats’ handling of Gaza war, and aid for Israel has garnered global wrath, and sharp criticism from both sides of the political spectrum. Progressives demand stronger humanitarian efforts in Gaza, while Republicans accuse the administration of failing to manage the situation effectively.

The Biden administration recently intensified its calls for Israel to improve humanitarian conditions in Gaza. In a letter from Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, the US warned that continued military assistance could be at risk if Israel failed to increase aid to Gaza.

The letter, however, was like every other calls made by the US – hollow. It lacked Biden or Harris’s signatures.

For the Democrats, Israel’s attack on Iran could pose significant challenge, especially in key states like Michigan, which is home to a large Arab-American community.

As the election is at the door step, Harris started to campaigning in the state where the Israeli war has become a sensitive topic. Biden has urged Israel to avoid targeting Iran’s nuclear or oil sites, but Netanyahu said that Israel will act based on its national interests.
