A Florida woman was found guilty of second-degree murder of her boyfriend on Friday. Sarah Boone was arrested following a 2020 incident in which she had zipped her boyfriend inside a suitcase causing his death.
The 42-year-old Jorge Torres Jr, her boyfriend was trapped in the suitcases while they were playing hide-and-seek. The couple had been playing puzzles and drinking wine in their apartment. They thought it would be funny to fit inside the suitcase and decided to try it out.

Boone zipped him inside the suitcase, two of his fingers stuck, out, so she assumed that he could open it, reports CNN. She left for her room upstairs thinking that he would join shortly, however, she woke and found him still in it and not breathing.
During the 10-trial, Boone’s defense had said that she was suffering from “Battered Spouse Syndrome” and was in fear for her life. However, from the video found on Boone’s phone, she was seen laughing while the victim was heard saying that he could not breathe and pleading to let him out.
Boone claimed that she got terrified when Torres started threatening her to release him. She has now accused him of previous domestic violence. “If he had gotten out of the suitcase, what would’ve happened?” she asked, stating that she was always in fear of Torres.
However, Boone had never mentioned her now-laid claim of self-defense during any initial police interviews. Boone had testified that she never meant to leave him to die in the case.
Instead, she claimed that when she felt safe enough, she made sure that the zipper side was exposed, and went to bed assuming that he would easily be able to free himself.

As per New York Post, Boone’s first eight attorneys claimed that the incident was accidental and none has ever cited the self-defense theory, and was mentioned only by the ninth lawyer, Jamer Owens.
Boone is scheduled to be sentenced on December 2 at 1:30 pm, according to the statement from the attorney’s office.
