The politician took an oath by placing his hand on a Quran at a decommissioned subway station in Manhattan.

Born in Uganda and raised in Queens, the 34-year-old won the mayoral election on November 4, 2025, with 50.78% of the vote over Andrew Cuomo and Curtis Sliwa.
