“12 Attempts, 7 Main Exams, 5 Interviews…”: UPSC CSE Aspirant’s Post Goes Viral

The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has declared the Civil Service Examination (CSE) 2023 today, on April 16, 2024. Aditya Srivastava topped the exams for which the written exams were held by the UPSC in September 2023 and the interviews for the Personality Test held in January-April, 2024.

Similar to every year many are rejoicing in their success and some must start planning to gear up for their next year’s preparations. The UPSC Civil Services Exam is considered one of the toughest competitive examinations in the world. Notably, candidates are given a maximum of 6 attempts to appear for the coveted exam with some relaxation to the reserved categories. Some of the candidates appear for one or two attempts to get selected or leave the preparation if remain unsuccessful. Among these candidates, some are those who do not want to leave the battleground till their last attempt.

This year’s result must have brought an end to the dream of many to become an IAS or IPS and to serve the nation. One such candidate Kunal R Virulkar shared his story via X writing, “12 attempt, 7 main, 5 interview… No selection”. After facing so many unsuccessful attempts Kunal wrote, “Maybe struggle is another name of life.”

People on the social media platform responded to this post and motivated him to get the best in his life. Some users praises him for keeping so much patience and to appear for 12 attempts. However some responded by need to remove the provision of so many attempts as it push candidates to keep going on and try till the last attempt.

However, this is not the first such case when candidates have appeared for all the available attempts. In the past years, candidates have utilitsed their all attempts to finally making into the list.

This year a total number of 1016 candidates have been recommended for appointment. Notably out of the total 347 candidates are from the general category, 115 from EWS, 303 from OBC, 165 from SC, and 86 from the SC category.

This year, according to UPSC statistics, a total of 10,16,850 aspirants had registered for the Civil Services examination, out of which only 5,92,141 candidates participated for the prelims, which is the first step of the examination process.
