BJP Fields Harsh Malhotra From East Delhi Lok Sabha Seat

Edited by Akhil Thomas

In the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, Delhi is going to witness an intense battle as both the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Congress are together aiming to defeat the BJP. The national capital, comprising seven Lok Sabha constituencies, will elect lawmakers on May 25. Notably, the BJP won all seats in Delhi in the 2014 and 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

Harsh Malhotra is the BJP candidate from the East Delhi Lok Sabha constituency. The saffron party made this move in the key constituency by replacing sitting MP and cricketer-turned-politician Gautam Gambhir. Harsh Malhotra is currently serving as the general secretary of the BJP’s Delhi unit. In August 2023, Harsh Malhotra was appointed to the team of office-bearers of the Delhi BJP.

Harsh Malhotra was the former mayor of the erstwhile East Delhi Municipal Corporation. In 2015, Harsh Malhotra became mayor after defeating Congress candidate Rekha Rani by 17 votes. The BJP leader, who is a law graduate from Delhi University, is contesting the parliamentary election for the first time. He had also served as the former President of the Delhi Printers Association and Joint Secretary of the All India Federation of Master Printers.

In the 2019 general elections, star candidate Gautam Gambhir won the East Delhi constituency by defeating Congress candidate Arvinder Singh Lovely by 3,91,222 votes. However, Gautam Gambhir recently decided to quit active politics. By replacing most of the sitting MPs, the BJP is eyeing a clean sweep in the national capital for the third time.
