Will Shiv Sena Candidate Rahul Shewale Retain Mumbai South Central Constituency?

Rahul Ramesh Shewale is the Shiv Sena candidate from the Mumbai South Central constituency. He is the current sitting MP from the constituency.

Shewale has served as four-time chairman of the standing committee of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Cooperation (BMC), the municipal cooperation of the city of Mumbai. He held the position from 2010 to 2014. He along with his predecessor Ravindra Walker holds the record for being appointed as the chairman of the BMC standing committee the most times.

Born in 1973, Shewale hails from Mumbai. His parents are Ramesh Sambhaji Shewale, an Indian Navy officer and Jayashri Shewale, an employee of MTNL. He is married to fellow Shiva Sena politician and BMC corporator Kamini Mayekar.

Shewale has also headed the Market and Garden Committee and the Ward Committee and was also a member of the Law Committee.

Shewale had earlier contested the election from Trombay assembly seat in 2004 but unfortunately, he was defeated by the Congress candidate.

In the 2014 Lok Sabha election, Shewale then BMC corporator from Anushakti Nagar was nominated by the party as the NDA candidate from Mumbai South Central constituency. The Congress party fielded Dalit leader Eknath Gaikwad against Shewale. Shewale won the seat by securing 3.8 lakh votes with a margin of 1.38 lakh over his nearest rival Gaikwad.

After the split of Shiva Sena, Rahul left Uddhav Thackeray and went with the Eknath Shinde.

Mumbai South Central Lok Sabha constituency is one of the 48 Lok Sabha constituencies in Maharashtra state. After the implementation of the delimitation, the constituency consists of six Vidhan Sabha segments.
