BYD Sealion 7 Aces Safety Test, With 5-Star Rating At Euro NCAP
Following its display at the Bharat Mobility Expo 2025, BYD introduced the Sealion 7 in India in February of this year, with a starting price of Rs 48.90 lakh (ex-showroom). The electric crossover received a flawless 5-star safety rating after a recent crash test at Euro NCAP. It received a remarkable 93% for child occupant safety and 87% for adult occupant protection.
The Sealion 7’s passenger cabin held steady throughout the frontal offset test. Both the driver and the front passenger’s knees and femurs were well protected, according to dummy readings. BYD proved that the amount of protection will be the same for people of all sizes and seating arrangements.
The Sealion 7 was found to be a relatively benign collision partner in frontal impacts based on an analysis of the impact trolley’s deceleration and the deformable barrier’s post-test state. Measured compression values in the full-width rigid barrier test resulted in a weak rating for the rear passenger’s chest protection. Nonetheless, the driver’s vital bodily parts were well protected.
The Sealion 7 received maximum scores in this category because it effectively protected all vital body parts in both the side barrier test and the more intense side pole impact test. The degree of body movement across the cabin in a far-side collision, known as excursion control, was judged to be sufficient.
In Euro NCAP testing, the center airbag, which is intended to lessen injuries from occupant-to-occupant contact in side impacts, did well and provided both front-seat occupants with adequate head protection. In rear-end crashes, tests on the head restraints and front seats demonstrated good protection against whiplash injuries. Strong whiplash protection was also shown by a geometric analysis of the back seats.
After a collision, the Sealion 7’s sophisticated eCall technology instantly notifies emergency agencies. To help avoid more crashes, it also has a post-impact braking system.
The SEALION 7 received maximum points in this section of the evaluation because it effectively protected all vital body parts for the 6- and 10-year-old child dummies in the frontal offset and side barrier tests. A rearward-facing child restraint can be securely installed in that seat by deactivating the front passenger airbag. The driver gets credited appropriately and is given clear information about the airbag’s condition by the system.
The car could accommodate and install all child restraint devices for which it is intended. A direct kid presence detection system is another feature of the SEALION 7, which sounds an alert if a child or baby is found inside the car after the driver has left. The Comfort version of the Sealion 7, which has up to 12 airbags, was tested by Euro NCAP. Advanced safety technologies like automatic emergency braking (AEB), speed assistance, lane assist, and driver fatigue recognition were also included in the crash test unit.
