BYD Fourth Offering: Sealion 7 Launched At Rs 48.9 Lakh

The base Premium model of BYD’s Sealion 7 electric SUV costs Rs 48.9 lakh, while the top-spec Performance trim costs Rs 54.9 lakh. On the same day that the SUV made its debut at Auto Expo 2025, BYD started taking reservations for the Sealion 7. Beginning on March 7, the first 70 Sealion 7 units will be delivered.

With a sloping roofline and the same Ocean-X design language as the Seal electric sedan, the Sealion 7’s overall proportions are more like those of a crossover than an SUV. The Sealion 7 has numerous X-shaped accents throughout, most notably in the headlights, taillights, and front bumper, which are similar to those on the Seal.

The premium version of the Sealion 7 has 19-inch alloy wheels, while the top-of-the-line Performance version has 20 inches. Atlantis Grey, Aurora White, Cosmos Black, and Shark Grey are the four colors that are offered.

The Sealion 7’s steering wheel and dashboard design also have similarities to the Seal. In the cabin, the majority of the controls and functions are located on a 15.6-inch spinning touchscreen infotainment system. In addition, the electric SUV has a panoramic glass roof with a sunshade, a floating digital instrument cluster, an electrically adjustable driver’s seat with memory function, ventilated front seats, connected car technology, a 50W wireless phone charger, a heads-up display, a powered tailgate, and vehicle-to-load (V2L) capability. Both the Premium and Performance versions have the same features.

When the rear seats are folded down, the SUV’s 520-liter boot can expand to 1,789 liters. The Sealion 7 also boasts a 58-liter frunk because it is an EV. When it comes to safety, the Sealion 7 has a 360-degree camera, 11 airbags, and a number of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) like automated emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, blind spot detection, and front collision warning.

Although both Sealion 7 models use the same 82.56kWh LFP low-voltage battery pack, their performance and outputs differ significantly. With a stated WLTP range of 482 kilometers, the Premium model’s Sealion 7 can dispatch the 0-100 kph run in 6.7 seconds thanks to its ability to channel 313 horsepower and 380 Nm through its rear wheels.

The Performance variant’s 530 horsepower and 690 Nm torque, which enable it to sprint to 100 kph from rest in 4.5 seconds, should appeal more to enthusiastic consumers. All-wheel drive is also available for this model, but its 456-kilometer WLTP claimed range is somewhat reduced.

The Volvo C40 Recharge is the Sealion 7’s closest competitor based on body style and price. The Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6 are also considered competitors of the Sealion 7 if we only consider price.
