BYD, known for its innovative electric vehicles, unveiled the Seal U SUV at the Geneva Motor Show 2024, marking a significant milestone in the company”s electrification efforts. Available in both electric and plug-in hybrid variants, the Seal U is a five-seater SUV designed to offer versatility and sustainability to consumers.
The Seal U SUV utilizes BYD“s Dual Mode (DM-i) technology, integrating an internal combustion engine, an electric motor, and the Blade battery system. This hybrid system prioritizes efficiency, aiming to maximize electric driving while minimizing reliance on the internal combustion engine. The petrol engine, likely a 1.5-litre powertrain, is complemented by a 194 bhp electric motor and Blade battery. Battery options include 18.3 kWh and 26.6 kWh variants, offering electric ranges of approximately 110 km and 150 km, respectively.
For the all-electric version, two lithium-iron-phosphate battery packs are available, offering ranges of up to 500 km and 520-605 km based on different testing cycles. With rapid charging capabilities, the Seal U can achieve 30-80% charging in as little as 28 minutes, making it convenient for on-the-go charging needs.
In terms of dimensions, the Seal U is a full-sized SUV, measuring 4,775mm in length, 1,890mm in width, and 1,670mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,765 mm. The five-seater SUV boasts a spacious boot space of 552 litres, expandable to 1,440 litres with the split 60:40 seats.
Reflecting BYD”s “Ocean Aesthetics” design language, the Seal U features an X-shaped front fascia, LED headlights, and 19-inch alloy wheels, exuding a modern and dynamic appearance. The cabin offers luxurious amenities, including vegan upholstery, a crystal gear stick, a 15.6-inch rotatable infotainment touchscreen with OTA updates, an Infinity sound system, and wireless charging.
BYD”s presence in India is expanding, with the upcoming launch of the Seal sedan on March 5. The company has opened bookings for the Seal sedan, adding to its existing lineup in the Indian market, which includes the Atto 3 SUV and E6 MPV. This expansion signifies BYD”s commitment to providing eco-friendly mobility solutions to Indian consumers and further establishing its footprint in the region.
