Mercedes-Benz EQA Launch in India: Luxury Meets Electric Innovation on July 8

Mercedes-Benz is set to launch the EQA electric SUV in India on July 8, 2024, marking its entry into the competitive segment of entry-level luxury electric SUVs, where it will compete with the BMW iX1 and Volvo XC40. This launch is part of Mercedes-Benz’s broader strategy to expand its electric vehicle (EV) portfolio globally, including in key markets like India.

The EQA is the all-electric equivalent of the GLA and represents one of six EV models Mercedes plans to introduce in India by the end of the decade. The model arriving in India is the facelifted version, which debuted globally in August last year.

Expected Exteriors

Visually, the EQA aligns with Mercedes’ existing electric vehicle design language. It features a distinctive blanked-off nose with a gloss black panel adorned with Mercedes’ signature star pattern and a full-width light bar at the front. Sleek LED headlamps and an LED DRL strip that spans the front of the vehicle add to its modern aesthetic. The rear sports a connected taillight assembly, a common trait in Mercedes’ electric range. Other exterior highlights include aerodynamic alloy wheels and modified front and rear bumpers. The overall silhouette of the EQA closely resembles the internal combustion engine-powered GLA.

Expected Interiors and Features

Inside, the EQA mirrors the luxury and sophistication typical of Mercedes’ EV range. The cabin includes turbine-style air vents with blue accents, a touch-capacitive three-spoke steering wheel, and luxurious materials throughout.

The infotainment system runs on the latest EV-specific MBUX software, ensuring seamless integration and functionality. Additional features include Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, powered front seats, dual-zone climate control, a panoramic sunroof, 64-colour ambient lighting, and a premium Burmester sound system with Dolby Atmos. Safety is also a priority, with multiple airbags, electronic stability control, front and rear parking sensors, and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS).

Expected Powertrain Specifications

Internationally, the EQA is available in four variants: EQA 250, EQA 250+, EQA 300 4Matic, and EQA 350 4Matic, each offering different battery and motor configurations. The EQA 250 and 250+ produce 188 bhp and 385 Nm of torque. The EQA 300 generates 225 bhp and 390 Nm, while the EQA 350 delivers 288 bhp and 520 Nm. The 250, 300, and 350 models come with a 66.5 kWh battery pack, whereas the EQA 250+ features a larger 70.5 kWh unit.

The EQA offers impressive range capabilities, with the 70.5 kWh battery providing up to 560 km (WLTP) on a full charge, and the 66.5 kWh battery offering up to 528 km (WLTP). In India, the EQA is expected to be available in all-wheel-drive formats featuring the 4Matic system.

With its launch, the Mercedes-Benz EQA aims to set a new standard in the Indian electric luxury SUV market, blending performance, style, and advanced technology.
