The much awaited EQG was introduced by Mercedes-Benz in India at an exorbitant price of Rs 3 crore (ex-showroom). The G 580, also known as the fully-electric G-Wagon, has a number of special features that are uncommon even in the market for high-end vehicles. Here are the top 5 characteristics that set the battery-powered G-Wagon apart.
A 116 kWh (usable) battery pack powers the all-electric G-Class’s quad-motor system, with one motor driving each wheel. This powerplant produces an incredible 580 horsepower and 1,164 Nm of torque in total. The quad-motor arrangement shortens the turning radius and allows for accurate power distribution to each wheel.

The EQG is also the first low-range battery-powered off-road vehicle because of torque vectoring, which works like a locking differential and distributes torque to each wheel according on the amount of traction. Trail and Rock are the two terrain options that go along with this.
G-Turn is a 360-degree turn function that Mercedes offers. It’s also known as a tank turn. The G580 can spin in place by reversing the direction of the wheels on the left and right sides of the vehicle. Due to a built-in safety precaution, the German brand’s G-Wagon electric can only perform two of these flips simultaneously.
The all-wheel steering system, which Merc refers to as G-Steering, removes the need for three- to five-point turns on a challenging off-road course. When off-roading in a big vehicle with a long wheelbase, this function is useful.
By regulating the torque output at each wheel according to the location of the inner rear wheel, the G580 may decrease its turning radius with the use of torque vectoring and the quad-motor configuration. In essence, it has the ability to swivel around and lock the inner rear wheel.
The EQG lacks the beautiful roar of the V8 that the fossil-fuelled AMG G63 offers, even if it is built to have the same sensation. To compensate for it, Mercedes has given the all-electric G-Class the G-Roar feature where speakers mimic the family’s combustion engine sounds.
The volume and intensity of the sounds align with the driving mode. Therefore, in Comfort Mode the sound is restrained whereas in Sport Mode, the speakers produce the exact same symphony as the AMG V8.

There is really no other electric vehicle that can equal the EQG 580’s off-road capability. Its exceptional off-road capabilities are demonstrated by its approach angle of 32 degrees, breakover angle of 20.3 degrees, departure angle of 30.7 degrees, and ground clearance of 250mm. This is coupled with an enormous 850mm water wading capacity.
