Mercedes-Maybach GLS 600 Facelift: A Luxurious Update for Bollywood's Elite

The new Mercedes-Maybach GLS 600 has arrived, flaunting a bling-filled update and a significant price hike. This luxury SUV has become the new favorite among Bollywood’s elite, epitomizing success and style with the iconic Maybach badge. When the Maybach name was added to the GLS, it wasn’t just a power statement but also an addition to its cool quotient. This SUV doesn’t just announce your arrival; it shouts it.

The 2024 version maintains its lavish appeal with an abundance of bling and an increased number of Maybach logos—61 to be precise. For those seeking subtlety, this isn’t the car for you. The famous Free Drive Mode (or Bounce Mode) remains, synchronizing the SUV’s air springs to bounce along with your favorite rap song. The 2024 facelift includes a slightly tweaked chrome grille with thicker outlines and redesigned bumpers featuring numerous Maybach logos, which, made of plastic, don’t quite match the car’s luxury level.

The Maybach GLS is available in five standard colors, but for those wanting to stand out, dual-tone paint options and larger 23-inch wheels are available. The rear features a new tail-lamp signature and the return of Maybach chrome tailpipe surrounds.

Interior and Features

Inside, the updates are minimal but notable. The lavish open-pore wood and Nappa leather with contrast double stitching create a luxurious atmosphere. The new steering wheel, updated MBUX software with a fingerprint sensor, and crisp new graphics enhance the driving experience. The Energizer Package menu, combining sounds, visuals, ambient lighting, and massages, transports you to a peaceful place.

The GLS now includes Level 2 ADAS and an extensive features list, including 11.6-inch rear screens, a 590W Burmester sound system, and heated, ventilated, and massaging seats for all four passengers. The rear passengers have access to a tablet controller, blinds, and wireless charging. The First Class rear seating package, with a fixed central console, 43.5-degree recline, and leg rests, is a must-have option, although the optional refrigerator significantly reduces boot space.

Performance and Driving Experience

The Q8 e-tron’s suspension gets my vote, too. You hear a distant thud on the worst of Mumbai’s roads, and the damped sensation is of a lot of layers between the surface and you. It rides with a whale-like heft you’d associate with a luxury car, some up-and-down movement notwithstanding.

Switching to the driver’s seat and toggling to Sport mode, the 4.0-litre V8 engine delivers power smoothly and swiftly. The 9-speed automatic gearbox shifts seamlessly, maintaining refined luxury. The light steering makes navigating traffic gaps easy, and the e-Active Body Control system enhances cornering by leaning the car into curves.

Price and Verdict

Starting at Rs 3.35 crore, the new Maybach GLS 600 sees a Rs 39 lakh increase from its predecessor. With potential customization options adding up to Rs 1.5 crore, the Maybach GLS 600 offers unparalleled comfort, luxury, and style. It’s a statement car that delivers on attitude, comfort, and an undeniably cool quotient.

Overall, the Mercedes-Maybach GLS 600 Facelift is an extravagant luxury SUV that stands out with its blend of opulence and advanced technology, perfectly suited for those who want to make a bold statement on the road.
