With Mini’s pre-bookings in India for the petrol-powered fourth-gen Mini Cooper S and the all-electric Mini Countryman, both are set to arrive later this year as fully-imported CBU models. This marks the debut of the all-electric Countryman in India. Both models were globally unveiled in September last year and are expected to launch around the festive season. The pre-booking amount for both models is Rs 1 lakh.
Mini Cooper S: What to Expect
The fourth-gen Mini Cooper S features several subtle yet noticeable updates. Externally, it sports a new octagonal front grille with blacked-out internals and a red S badge, alongside redesigned circular LED headlights with gloss black surrounds and smoked treatment. The headlights integrate circular LED DRLs. The bonnet is larger, extending beyond the wheel arches, which are highlighted by black plastic claddings. The new dual-tone, machine-cut alloy wheels fill the circular arches. At the rear, the new taillamp cluster features arrowhead LED elements with the Union Jack signature, connected by a black trim with the car’s name.
Inside, the minimalist design continues with a larger 9.5-inch round central touchscreen infotainment system featuring an OLED display that also serves as the instrument cluster. Additional features include MINI Experience Modes, MINI Connected car tech with an Intelligent Personal Assistant, digital key plus, Fisheye In-car Camera, electric seat function, and a massage function for the driver’s seat.
The new Mini Cooper S retains the 2.0-litre, four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine from its predecessor, now delivering 201 bhp and 300 Nm of peak torque, an increase of 26 bhp and 20 Nm. Power is transmitted to the front wheels via a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. The Cooper S can accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in 6.6 seconds.
Mini Countryman Electric: What to Expect
The new all-electric Countryman features a familiar design with subtle tweaks. It has similar smoked headlights with LED DRLs encircling the headlamps, though the shape differs slightly. The rest of the design mirrors its petrol counterpart.
Feature-wise, it matches the Mini Cooper S but includes Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) as an addition.
The Mini Countryman electric is powered by a front-mounted electric motor producing 201 bhp and 250 Nm of torque, enabling it to reach 100 kmph in 8.6 seconds. There is also a more powerful variant, the Countryman SE ALL4, offering 494 Nm of torque. The base Countryman variant boasts a range of 462 km on a single charge, while the SE version has a range of 433 km (WLTP).
Mini’s new models promise significant updates and features, appealing to both petrol and electric vehicle enthusiasts in India.
