New Lexus ES Debuts With All-Electric And Hybrid Powertrains In Its ES Sedan Format
At the current Auto Shanghai show in China, the next-generation Lexus ES sedan was unveiled. Both hybrid and, for the first time, all-electric powertrain options are available.
According to Lexus, the new ES is meant to provide “first-class comfort for everyone on board” and has a better ride and quieter cabin than its predecessor.
Two versions of the Lexus ES EV will be available for purchase: the 342.6-hp 550e with all-wheel drive and the 350e, which generates 224.3-hp and has front-wheel drive.
According to Lexus, the 350e and 550e have a range of up to 685 and 610 kilometres, respectively, under the China Light-Duty Vehicle Test Cycle (CLTC).
Although Lexus has not revealed the battery’s capacity, it is most likely going to use the 77 kWh pack from the RZ SUV. The 350e and 550e accelerate from 0 to 100 kph in 8.9 and 5.9 seconds, respectively.
Both a 2-litre (197.1 hp) and a 2.5-litre (201.2 hp) normally aspirated 4-cylinder gasoline engine will be available for the ES 300h.
The ES 350h, on the other hand, will only have the larger 2.5-litre gasoline engine, but it will produce 247.4 horsepower. An ECV is connected to both engines, providing power to either the front or all four wheels. There is currently no information available regarding range or hybrid battery charging time (10-80%).

Aerodynamic lines abound in the profile area, and the doors have electrically driven handles.
Depending on the market, the updated dual-tone alloy wheels will be available with tires ranging in size from 18 to 21 inches.
The most recent ES sports a more rakish rear roofline, but the overall design seems familiar. An illuminated LEXUS lettermark (in all powertrains) sits in the centre of the rear area, which is also brand-new and has a connected LED bar for the first time. Additionally, both ends of the bumper are equipped with L-shaped lights.
Compared to the previous generation, its dashboard design is completely minimalistic. The majority of the functions have been moved to the larger 14-inch touchscreen, which supports OTA updates. A 12.3-inch driver’s display sits next to it.

A Mark Levinson sound system, an electrochromic panoramic glass roof, boss mode in the front seats, and rear reclining seats with an ottoman function are further amenities.
According to Lexus, “better door sealing and the use of glass with high sound insulation quality in the front doors” were key components of their noise reduction strategy.
The Lexus Safety System+ 4.0, which includes adaptive cruise control, pre-collision safety, blind-spot monitoring, and lane-departure assistance, is also included with the new ES.
