New Skoda Kodiaq Prepping Ahead Of Launch On April 17;  CBU Model At A Later Stage

On April 17, Skoda plans to introduce the brand-new, second-generation Kodiaq in India. The most recent version of the SUV, which debuted worldwide in September 2024, has minor but significant improvements over the previous model. The new Kodiaq will be locally assembled using CKD kits at the company’s production site in Aurangabad, just like the outgoing model.

The Czech automaker has teased the second-generation Kodiaq in all its splendour on social media platforms prior to its introduction. In recent days, the business has released two teasers for the high-end mid-size SUV, which will come in two trim levels: Sportline and Laurin & Klement (L&K). Two test vehicles of the new Kodiaq were recently seen on video as the debut draws closer.

Two Kodiaq prototypes exist: the Sportline and the L&K. The visual differences between the two types were immediately discernible upon closer study. The L&K trims with additional chrome accents, such the rear bumper and the iconic Skoda butterfly grille, are the ones that are covered in the golden hue.

The SUV has a sharper edge thanks to the blacked-out features on the Sportline version. A thin chrome treatment is applied to the rear bumper to provide the illusion of a blacked-out diffuser panel. Despite the fact that both versions have dual-tone wheels, the alloy wheel styles differ slightly. A “4×4” badge on the tailgate is visible on both versions.

Visual highlights including split headlights with larger main units and integrated LED DRLs, C-shaped LED taillights, Skoda logo, a roof-mounted spoiler, and optional D-pillar trim are among the other design elements that are shared by both types. In comparison to its predecessor, the new Kodiaq appears to have a longer rear overhang. In relation to that, the new Kodiaq is 59 mm longer than the previous model, measuring 4,758 mm in length. Nevertheless, the SUV’s wheelbase, breadth, and height have not changed.

Although the interior of the Skoda Kodiaq built for India has not yet been fully revealed, it is anticipated to closely match the European model and be designed for right-hand drive. LED matrix headlamps, a fully digital instrument cluster, dual-zone climate control, Level 2 ADAS, ventilated and heated front seats, a panoramic sunroof, multi-color ambient lighting, a premium sound system, an electrically operated tailgate, and a 13-inch freestanding touchscreen infotainment system are some of the new Kodiaq’s key features.

The Kodiaq has a 360-degree camera, front and rear parking sensors, electronic stability control, up to nine airbags, ABS with EBD, and an advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) for extra safety. Notably, in July of this year, the new Kodiaq received a 5-star Euro NCAP safety certification. The 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine that produces 188 horsepower and 320 Nm of peak torque will still power the Skoda Kodiaq, which is built to India specifications. All four wheels will receive power from this motor’s special pairing with a 7-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic transmission.
