Nissan X Trail Returns to India with New Colours and Premium Features

The Nissan X Trail is making a highly anticipated return to India, with a launch expected later this month. Alongside its extensive features and seven-seat layout, we now have information on the colours available to buyers in India.

Design Philosophy

Alfonso Albaisa explained in a roundtable discussion with Indian media that the design of the fourth-generation X Trail marks a return to the bold, upright aesthetics of the first and second-generation models. The third-generation X Trail, which was not launched in India, adopted a curvier, more crossover-like appearance in line with market trends at the time (2014) and the rest of Nissan’s model range.

The new X Trail, while not outright boxy, embraces a more upright and square-shouldered look, reminiscent of body-on-frame SUVs. This design evolution aims to provide a rugged yet modern appearance, balancing traditional SUV elements with contemporary touches. Features like cladding on the wheel arches and bumpers, scuff plates, and Nissan’s signature ‘V-Motion’ grille finished in gloss black contribute to this dual aesthetic. Split LED headlamps and metallic trim add to the modernity of the design, setting the X Trail apart from its rivals.

Competitive Landscape

The 2024 Nissan X Trail will compete with other seven-seat SUVs in the Indian market, including the Skoda Kodiaq, Toyota Fortuner, and MG Gloster. These competitors are well-established in the segment, making it crucial for Nissan to leverage the X Trail’s unique blend of ruggedness and modern design, along with its premium features, to attract buyers.

Key Highlights

  1. Limited Colour Options for India: The 2024 Nissan X Trail will be available in three colours in India: Diamond Black, Champagne Silver, and Solid White. While more colour options are available for the model overseas, Nissan has opted for a subdued palette for the Indian market. This decision aims to position the X Trail as a premium offering and highlight its return to a more “authentic SUV” look, according to Alfonso Albaisa, Senior Vice President of Nissan Design.
  2. Seven-Seat Layout and Panoramic Sunroof: The new X Trail features a seven-seat layout and a panoramic sunroof, catering to the needs of larger families and those seeking a spacious, airy cabin experience. These features add to the vehicle’s appeal in the competitive SUV market.
  3. CBU Import with Premium Pricing: This will be a Completely Built Unit (CBU) import, with an expected price range of Rs 40-45 lakh. This premium pricing reflects the vehicle’s high-end features and positioning in the market.

The return of the Nissan X Trail to India brings with it a refined, premium SUV designed to meet the demands of modern buyers. With its limited yet sophisticated colour options, spacious seven-seat layout, and a blend of rugged and modern design elements, the new X Trail is poised to make a significant impact in the competitive SUV market.
