Tata Sierra, Sierra.ev Launch This Year: Was First To Offer 4×4 Drivetrain In 1993

Over the past five to six years, Tata Motors has launched a large number of cars, including both totally electric and combustion engine variants. The domestic automaker is currently preparing for the June 3 introduction of the Harrier.ev. For a very long time, people have been waiting for the electric SUV.

In addition to the all-electric Harrier, Tata is attempting to bring the Sierra icon back to life. The company originally unveiled a concept of the SUV at the Auto Expo 2020, and earlier this year at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo, it unveiled a closer-to-production prototype.

Both ICE and EV versions of the Sierra will be offered, just like the existing Tata PV portfolio. Express Drives has learned through an exclusive interview with Vivek Srivatsa that Sierra and Sierra.ev would be introduced to the market by March 2026, which is within this fiscal year. Over the past few months, test mules of the SUV have been seen on a regular basis. Let’s examine our current understanding of the Sierra and Sierra EV.

Tata Motors has skillfully reimagined the famous Sierra, as demonstrated at the Expo earlier this year, fusing its vintage appeal with contemporary design. In accordance with modern safety standards, the original’s large back glass has been rebuilt, providing occupants with increased protection. The new Sierra’s wide stance, sleek LED DRLs under the bonnet, glossy black grille, and unique vertically stacked LED headlights above a robust metal skid plate all make a striking impression up front.

The car’s flanks maintain its traditional boxy shape, which is enhanced by its eye-catching alloy wheels and chic dual-tone floating roof. The “Sierra” nameplate underneath the Tata insignia and a sophisticated linked LED tail light at the back finish the design with subtle elegance.

The center console tunnel distinguishes this model from others, even if the dashboard design is in line with Tata’s most recent lineup. Earlier this year, patent applications revealed a familiar dashboard design with a touchscreen entertainment system in the middle, a fully digital instrument cluster, and streamlined horizontal air conditioning vents.

Additionally, it has Tata’s innovative 4-spoke steering wheel with a backlit display that shows the company’s emblem. A centrally located speaker, a feature kept from the concept version, highlights the dashboard’s sophisticated, layered design that flows gracefully downward.

Regarding features, we anticipate that the Tata Sierra and Sierra EV will have a panoramic sunroof, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, linked car technologies, voice-activated functions, and auto climate control. Six airbags, a 360-degree camera, and a Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance System with features like automated emergency braking, lane-keep assistance, and lane-change assistance will all contribute to safety.

Both gasoline and diesel engine options will be available for the ICE-powered Sierra. This includes the popular 2.0-litre Kryotec diesel engine seen in the Harrier and Safari, which generates 168 horsepower and a maximum torque of 350 Nm, as well as a brand-new 1.5-liter turbo-petrol engine that makes 168 horsepower and 280 Nm of torque. Both a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic gearbox are anticipated to be available as transmission options.
