Sixth Gen Toyota RAV4 Revealed With Camry Like Design Cues, All-New Operating System
The sixth-generation Toyota RAV4 was unveiled. Toyota has upgraded the hybrid powertrains, added a new infotainment system with a next-generation operating system, and brought the SUV into line with its most recent design language. It has also introduced the RAV4 GR Sport edition.
The headlights and taillights of the new RAV4 use the same “Hammerhead” appearance as the most recent Camry that is available for purchase in India. Compared to the outgoing model, the general profile is boxier, almost Land Cruiser-like, with broader wheel arches that are allegedly a nod to the off-road capabilities of its ancestors. Wheel sizes range from 17 to 19 inches, depending on the market.

The interior of the new RAV4 has been completely redesigned in comparison to its predecessor, including the steering wheel, AC controls, and dashboard design. The most significant modification, however, is the new 12.9-inch infotainment touchscreen, which introduces Toyota’s new Arene operating system, replacing the 12.3-inch one seen in the previous generation. It is a common platform that will be available on all future Toyotas (in foreign countries), similar to Google’s Android or Apple’s iOS, to facilitate the speedier and simpler integration of new features.
Instead of making customers wait for a new model, the Japanese company claims that it will be able to implement new safety and entertainment features through over-the-air (OTA) upgrades. The RAV4’s new safety kit includes a rear-approach monitor, which is supposed to assist drivers while merging onto highways. According to Toyota, it will eventually be able to download performance packs that mimic the configuration and maybe the performance of various Lexus vehicles as well as other models from the company.

The new RAV4 will come with gasoline, powerful hybrid, and innovative plug-in hybrid engine options, depending on the market. With the new 304hp AWD plug-in hybrid and 268hp front-wheel drive options, the RAV4 can reportedly reach 100kph in 5.8 seconds. The RAV4 PHEV’s 22.7kWh battery offers a 100km (WLTP) all-electric range and can be charged from 10 to 80 percent in 30 minutes using a DC fast charger.
A 2.0-litre gasoline engine with 171 horsepower and AWD will also be available in the Japanese market. The powerful hybrid RAV4, which is headed to European countries, has 183 horsepower up front and 191 horsepower with AWD. For the 2017 RAV4, Toyota has also unveiled the sportier GR Sport variant, which has stronger springs, a 20mm-wider track, larger, lighter 20-inch alloy wheels, and revised dampers. According to the brand, the RAV4 GR Sport prioritizes handling. The SUV’s sporty variant is equipped with aluminum pedals, bucket-like sports seats, and GR badging. A RAV4 Adventure version, which has a wider track, a more erect front grille, and distinctive wheel arch covering, is also available in some regions.
The sixth-generation Toyota RAV4 is not anticipated to arrive in India, but its predecessors were considered for possible entry. In 2021, the SUV was also observed being tested on our roads. The RAV4 hasn’t arrived in India yet, though.
