At Roland-Garros 2025, Renault introduced the brand-new 4 Savane 4×4 Concept, a daring redesign of its legendary Renault 4 designed for contemporary explorers. The new idea blends off-road skills, EV technology, and a sense of nostalgia with the original Savane editions from the middle of the 20th century.

Dual motors, one on each axle, provide full-time all-wheel drive for significant off-road potential in this all-electric design. Its front and back tracks are extended by 0.4 inches, and it rides almost 0.6 inches higher than the normal Renault 4 E-Tech. The Savane has large 225/55 Goodyear UltraGrip Performance+ tires mounted on 18-inch wheels. The Savane has permanent all-wheel drive thanks to a second electric motor on the back axle. Although Renault has not disclosed power figures, it is more powerful than the normal model’s 148 horsepower and 181 lb-ft. With a 52-kWh battery, the conventional Renault 4 can go from 0 to 62 miles per hour in 8.2 seconds.

The roof is covered in pixel-camouflage fabric, and the gloss black bumpers and arches accentuate the Jade Green appearance. The tough appearance is finished with a striking “4Savane” emblem and 3D-printed shock-absorbing bumper parts. The Savane’s interior is similar to that of the ordinary Renault 4, but the fabric is Deep Brown. The seats have quilted number fours on the backrests and a houndstooth design. A backlit 4Savane emblem on the dashboard, which is likewise brown with top stitching, lends an air of refinement and adventure.

Compared to the regular Renault 4, the Savane concept has 10 mm wider front and rear tracks and 15 mm more ground clearance. It has Goodyear UltraGrip Performance+ 225/55 tires on 18-inch “Savane” wheels. These improvements provide it greater agility and traction when navigating muddy, snowy, or uneven terrain.

Although the battery for the Savane has not been verified by Renault, it may employ the 52-kWh pack found in the normal model, which offers a 249-mile WLTP range. Although less likely, a 40-kWh option is feasible. Compared to the normal single-motor Renault 4, the dual motors can shorten the vehicle’s range. As Renault is ready to introduce the next-generation MICRA EV, the concept also shows off the AmpR Small EV platform’s potential for four-wheel drive B-segment electric vehicles. The French Open will feature the 4 Savane 4×4.

After 30 years, the Savane name—which has been associated with exploration since the 1950s—resurfaces. By 1986, it had evolved from a tough Renault 4 to a laid-back adventurer. Targeting “gentleman explorers,” this idea combines electric power and vintage design for contemporary off-road excursions.
