Unleashing Off-Road Dominance: Exploring The Ducati DesertX Rally
Ducati recently unveiled its latest offering in the adventure motorcycle segment in India with the launch of the Ducati DesertX Rally, a more rugged and off-road-focused variant of the DesertX. Priced at Rs 23.7 lakh (ex-showroom), this new iteration boasts several upgrades over its standard counterpart.
One of the significant enhancements in the DesertX Rally lies in its suspension system. Manufactured by Kayaba, the upgraded suspension components offer superior performance, especially in challenging off-road conditions. In comparison to the standard DesertX, the Rally version features 48mm closed cartridge forks with an impressive 250mm of travel, significantly more than the 230mm found in the standard variant.
Furthermore, the rear shock absorber has also undergone improvements, providing increased travel and full adjustability, including high and low-speed compression damping. These enhancements not only enhance the bike”s off-road capabilities but also contribute to a substantial increase in ground clearance, now measuring at an impressive 280mm. Additionally, the saddle height has been raised to 910mm, ensuring better clearance over obstacles.
To complement its enhanced off-road prowess, the DesertX Rally comes equipped with stronger spoked wheels fitted with tubed tires, a high front fender, and a carbon fiber sump guard. Adjustable brake and gear pedals offer riders the flexibility to customize their riding experience according to their preferences. Moreover, the inclusion of a generous 21-litre fuel tank ensures extended riding range, perfect for long-distance adventures.
Despite these upgrades, the DesertX Rally only sees a marginal increase in weight, tipping the scales at 211kg without fuel, just 1kg heavier than the standard DesertX. This slight increase is a testament to Ducati”s commitment to maintaining agility and performance, even with added features and capabilities.
Under the hood, the DesertX Rally retains the same potent heart as its standard counterpart—a 937cc L-twin engine producing 109bhp and 92Nm of torque. Paired with a 6-speed gearbox, this powertrain delivers exhilarating performance both on and off the road. The Rally version also inherits the comprehensive electronics package and rider aids from the standard DesertX, including traction control, multiple ride modes, and ABS, ensuring a safe and controlled riding experience in various conditions.
