With that price tag, it’s the priciest Volkswagen available for purchase in the nation. The ex-showroom price of Volkswagen’s Golf GTI Mk 8.5 in India is Rs 53 lakh. Following the canceled Polo GTI, VW India’s second GTI model, the Golf GTI, has been introduced as a CBU, with the first 150 vehicles sold already. According to a business spokeswoman, the manufacturer intends to supply an additional 100 Golf GTIs in response to demand.

The 2.0-litre, four-cylinder, turbo-petrol engine that powers the VW Golf GTI generates 265 horsepower and 370 Nm. The upcoming Volkswagen Tiguan R Line SUV also uses this mill. The front wheels receive power from the TSI motor through a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. Interestingly, an electrically operated front-axle differential lock is also included with the hot hatch.

The new Golf’s top speed is electronically limited to 250 kph, yet it only takes 5.9 seconds to go from 0 to 100 kph. For comparison, one of its competitors in India, the Mini Cooper S, reaches 100 kph in 6.6 seconds and reaches 242 kph.

A narrow DRL strip connects the Matrix LED headlights to the lighted VW roundel up front. X-shaped LED fog lights flank the bumper, which also has a sportier look than the normal Golf (sold abroad). The nose has a sleek red stripe, and the grille bears a GTI insignia. There are additional GTI badges on the rear and front doors. The Golf GTI has red brake calipers and 18-inch dual-tone alloy wheels. LED taillights are disconnected but given a smoked-out treatment. Two exhaust points and a noticeable roof spoiler are further accents at the back.
