“We are bringing two of Volkswagen’s most iconic models to India this year,” said Ashish Gupta, Brand Director, Volkswagen India. Three engine options are available for the Volkswagen Tiguan R-Line worldwide: two gasoline versions, a diesel alternative, and a plug-in hybrid (PHEV). The base version of the 2-liter TSI turbo-petrol** engine produces 201 horsepower and 320 Nm of torque, while the more potent version produces 261 horsepower and 400 Nm. A seven-speed dual-clutch automatic (DSG) transmission is mated to both gasoline engines. Notably, the 201 horsepower model has been announced for the Indian market, where all-wheel drive is probably going to be a feature.

A 2-litre TDI diesel engine with 190 horsepower and 400 Nm is part of the Tiguan portfolio abroad. It is mated to a 7-speed DSG automatic transmission. Volkswagen has stopped selling diesel engines in India, thus this engine won’t be accessible there. There is also a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) version that combines an 85 kW electric motor with a 1.5-liter TSI petrol engine that produces 174 horsepower and 250 Nm, for a total output of 268 horsepower and 400 Nm. The 6-speed DSG automatic transmission is standard on this hybrid variant.
