India’s first transhipment, Vizhinjam International Seaport, operated by the Adani Group and located near Kovalam Beach in Kerala, welcomed its first mothership, ‘San Fernando’, which belongs to Maersk, the world’s second-largest shipping company. The vessel arrived at the port carrying over 2,000 containers, making it a historic moment. The ship was greeted with a traditional water salute and then successfully docked at the port.

Vasavan, Minister of Food and Civil Supplies G. R. Anil, and other Adani Group authorities. The official function is scheduled for Friday which will be held in the presence of the Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal along with Chief Minister of Kerala Pinarayi Vijayan and Adani Port Managing Director Karan Adani.

The mothership will gear up for the next voyage after the inauguration heading to the next destination at Colombo port and galore ships are already scheduled to disembark with cargo in the coming days. On Friday, the mothership may undergo the official completion of the first phase carrying a 3,000 metre water and 800-metre container berth ready which is indeed a huge cargo shipment in the history of Kerala.

It is the first semi-automated container terminal in the country which will also be known as the global bunkering hub that supplies hydrogen and ammonia green fuels. As far as the voyage is concerned, a great vision toward full-fledged commercial and port operations is scheduled to kick off in the coming months. In 2028, the project may complete its second and third phases which would further marked as one of the greenest ports in the world.

The security area and electric lines are set up to approach connectivity and it was almost complete as the way requires 32 cranes across A.1.7 km road. The port is just 10 nautical miles from the International Shipping Route connecting Europe, the Gulf and the Far East (East, North and South Asia) as it was located strategically to port the helm in no burden.
