Amid speculations that Artificial Intelligence (AI) may replace human potential, Tech Mahindra CEO CP Gurnani has given his opinion on the matter. In his view, “applied intelligence” – as he referred to artificial intelligence – can cause a disruption in the IT (Information Technology) sector by potentially replacing one-third of IT jobs currently held by humans.
However, he believes that new jobs may emerge as companies innovate with higher efficiency. He predicts that 20-30% of jobs today, including those in call centers and software testing, will be eliminated within three years. Despite this, he is optimistic that the market will expand, and innovation will be possible. Gurnani emphasized the importance of staying relevant to stay ahead of the curve.
Earlier, a study predicted that AI will take over 5% of full-time jobs in the tech sector each year for the next five years. The study also emphasized the importance of being vigilant while navigating through the AI ecosystem, emphasizing the need for relentless learning and upskilling.
The growing integration of AI across different sectors has sparked discussions about the equilibrium between automation and human expertise. While AI is anticipated to optimize processes and boost efficiency, the significance of human creativity, critical thinking, and complex problem-solving cannot be undermined. Achieving the right balance between AI-driven automation and human insight will be a crucial factor in the tech industry’s adaptation to these evolving dynamics1.
