
Amid Murthy's 70-Hour Workweek Debate, New Infosys Policy Backs Employee Work-Life Balance
Amid Infosys co-founder and former CEO Narayana Murthy‘s controversial 70-hr workweek idea, Infosys emphasises for work-life balance. In recent email communication, the Indian IT major urged employees to stick to regular working hours, warning them against working overtime.
In the internal email, which company sent to those employees working more than the regular hours, were told that their previous month’s average work hours exceeded the company’s standard limit. It comprised details such as the total hours they worked, the average daily hours and the number of days they worked remotely in the past month.

As per the reports, the email reminded the employees to watch out of their health and maintain a work-life balance to make sure their own effectiveness and success at work in the long run.
“While we appreciate your commitment, we also believe that maintaining a healthy work-life balance is crucial for both your well-being and long-term professional success,” the live mint reported, quoting the email.
“Take regular breaks during your workday; Let your manager know if you are feeling overwhelmed or need support with reviewing priorities. Speak to your manager about delegating tasks or redistributing some responsibilities as appropriate; Take time to recharge during off hours, minimising work-related interactions whenever possible,” the email further added.
The HR monitors an employee’s working hours and sends an email to the person if they have spent more than required hours while working from home.

Infosys introduced the return-to-office policy on November 20, 2023. According to the policy, employees were asked to work from the office at least 10 days a month. Earlier in October 2023, he remarked that the youth should work 70 hours a week to enhance the nation’s labour productivity.
