Bank Union Announces Nationwide Strike From September 11 Over 5-Day Banking, PLI Hike
New Delhi: The United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) has called for a series of nationwide strikes against the delay in implementing five-day banking week and the government’s revised Performance Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme for senior bank officers. The union will conduct its first strike on September 11.
The union, which represents more than 90% of the banking workforce across public sector banks, private sector banks, foreign banks, regional rural banks and co-operative banks, has announced an indefinite strike from October 26.

According to a press release, the union said it will observe an all-India bank strike on 11 September, followed by strikes on 28, 29 and 30 September. It has also announced a continuous, indefinite strike from 26 October, if their demands are not met.
The demands include implementation of five-day banking as agreed in the Settlement/Joint Note dated 8 March, 2024, withdrawal of the government’s PLI scheme, modification of the scheme through bilateral discussions with unions, and resolution of residual issues.
