An appalling price gouging incident came to light on Thursday where a Treebo hotel has allegedly increased the rates for a pre-booked stay, citing the upcoming Coldplay concert in Ahmedabad city.
The customer, who had booked the hotel room in advance took to social media platform X to express his outrage. He stated that asking increased rate for a booked stay is absolutely unfair and raw.
According to the customer, the hotel had confirmed his booking but later contacted him to inform him that the rates had been increased due to the Coldplay concert.
He wrote: ” All in for capitalism but asking increased rate for a booked stay. Thats new.”

This move has been widely criticised by netizens with many accusing the hotel of unfair price gouging and suggest him to seek legal help. The incident has also highlighted the issue of hotels inflating their rates during high-demand events like Coldplay concerts which may leave customers with little choice but to pay exorbitant prices.

Coldplay dropped the date for their Ahmedabad concert that they’re set to rock the Narendra Modi Stadium on January 25, 2025, which is going to be their largest show ever.
Hotel prices in the city have surged immensely making it an expensive thing to travel on those dates. This is because the hotel business has begun exploiting travellers who are about to book the Coldplay concert scheduled for January 25th, 2025.
Following this, booking apps show sky-high hotel prices on 23-24 and also on the day of the concert. This global event has created an unprecedented demand for accommodations ranging from Rs 14,000 to Rs 75,000 for mid-range hotels and luxury hotels reaching Rs 1, 00000 per night on those dates.
