Governments Projects For Women Empowerment Enhanced Women's Dignity Says Finance Minister

Union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman while presenting the interim budget speech on Thursday claimed that the implementation of the government projects for women empowerment has enhanced the women”s dignity in the country.

Nirmala listing out the projects brought by the government under the leadership of Narendra Modi said, “Making Triple Talaq illegal, one-third of women”s reservation in Lok Sabha and state assemblies, giving over 70% houses under PM Awas Yojana in rural areas to women as sole or joint owners have enhanced their dignity”.
The finance minister also gave out statistics on increased women”s participation in the workforce. She said, “Female enrolment in higher education up by 28% in 10 years, in STEM courses, girls & women make 43% of enrolment, one of the highest in the world”.

Under the Lakhpati Didi scheme, 83 lakh Self Help Groups (SHGs) with nine crore women are transforming the rural socio-economic landscape with empowerment and self-reliance. She added that their success has helped to assist nearly 1 crore women to become Lakhpati didi. As the scheme has been a success, the government has decided to enhance the target of Lakhpati didi from 2 crore to 3 crore, the finance minister announced.

The Lakhpati didi program is aimed at training women in self-help groups (SHGs) so that they can earn a sustainable income of at least Rs 1 lakh per annum per household.
