New Delhi: Amid concerns about Pakistan’s potential retaliatory action against India, Indian airspace has been under close watch, with major airports across North India being closed and several airlines canceling both domestic and international flight services.
Indian strikes, as a response to Pahalgam terror attack, in Pakistan and Pak-occupied Kashmir reportedly killed 26 people, while Pakistan’s overnight shelling claimed 12 civilian lives in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch. Following the attack, Pakistan’s Information Minister warned that India would face a “very fierce response” to its missile strikes.

Notably, the situation has prompted India to prepare for civil defense, forcing airlines to cancel services and airport to shut down. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) is actively monitoring the situation, as per a report by India Today.
How The Development Is Going To Impact Flight Operations In India?
Several airlines have issued warnings and travel advisories for both domestic and international travelers, and many commercial operations have been halted in north India.

In a social media post, Air India informed us that it has canceled all its flights to and from several airports across North India till12 noon on 7 May. The airline released the names of airports – Jammu, Srinagar, Leh, Jodhpur, Amritsar, Bhuj, Jamnagar, Chandigarh and Rajkot.
“Two international flights en route to Amritsar are being diverted to Delhi. “We regret the inconvenience caused due to this unforeseen disruption. “For more information, please call our Contact Center on 011-69329333 / 011-69329999 or visit our website,” the airline wrote on X.
In view of the prevailing situation, Air India has cancelled all its flights to and from the following stations – Jammu, Srinagar, Leh, Jodhpur, Amritsar, Bhuj, Jamnagar, Chandigarh and Rajkot – till 12 noon on 7 May, pending further updates from authorities.…

Flight operations by other major airlines, including Air India, IndiGo, SpiceJet, Akasa Air, and Air India Express, have also been disrupted, and most of the companies have issued advisories and canceled flights.
Due to the ongoing situation, airports in parts of northern India, including Dharamshala (DHM), Leh (IXL), Jammu (IXJ), Srinagar (SXR), and Amritsar (ATQ), are closed until further notice. Departures, arrivals, and consequential flights may be impacted. “Passengers are advised to plan their journey accordingly and check flight status,” IndiGo said in a post on X.

As per a report by Money control, around 100 flights to these airports are bound to be affected till midday. IndiGo operates between 16-25 daily flights, Air India around 25, and SpiceJet operates between 20-23 daily flights to the affected airports.
The measures by airports and airlines are considered as a precautionary move against any attack by Pakistan in response to India’s air strikes at 9 locations across Pakistan and PoK targeting terror.
