The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has sought permission from the Supreme Court to resume its investigation into the coal scam allegedly perpetrated by the Adani Group. With the new investigation, the Indian revenue agency intends to unearth documents being concealed in Singapore.
According to a report by Reuters, the agency suspects that the Adani Group inflated the prices of Indonesian coal exports on paper to its Singapore unit, Adani Global Pte, and then to its Indian subsidiaries.

In the wake of this new development, Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra alleged that the investigation was stalled due to the intervention of the BJP”s top brass and that she will expose more details about this matter in the coming days.
However, the Adani Group, led by billionaire Gautam Adani, has been denying the allegations and has successfully defended itself against the investigating agencies” attempts to gather the
Singapore documents since 2016. The evidence India intends to
obtain from the Singapore authorities includes Adani”s bank transactions, which may help establish the financial trail in the case, Reuters reported, citing sources.
If the Supreme Court grants permission to retrieve the evidence, the agency”s next step should be to seek an order from Singapore”s court. Earlier, a lower court had blocked the investigating agency from getting evidence from Singapore at the Adani Group”s request. The Indian Revenue Agency now wants the Supreme Court to scarp the lower court”s order.
The Adani Coal Scam refers to the overpricing of coal imports by as much as 52%, resulting in excessive charges for Indian consumers and businesses. The Adani Group is one of the largest coal importers in the country.
