Residents of Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru will soon have the privilege of using air taxi services to travel from one end of the city to the other. IndiGo parent InterGlobe has partnered with Archer Aviation, a leading California-based electric air taxi company backed by Boeing, United Airlines, and Stellantis, to launch all-electric air taxi services in these cities in 2026.
InterGlobe and Archer Aviation plan to purchase 200 of Archer”s Midnight electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft for India operations. These aircraft will enable passengers to fly from Connaught Place to Gurugram in 7 minutes, a journey that takes 60-90 minutes by car.
The Midnight aircraft can carry four passengers plus a pilot and can be recharged quickly. eVTOL is a piloted-mode technological advancement that may be implemented by 2025, according to reports. In addition to air taxis, the partnership also plans to venture into electric aircraft for cargo, logistics, and emergency services.
InterGlobe Aviation has been consistently reporting impressive results in every quarter, benefiting from other aviation companies” struggles. In the second quarter of the current fiscal year, the company reported a profit of Rs. 1.88 billion ($22.59 million), up significantly from Rs. 15.85 billion in the same period last year.
