Narayana Murthy Gifts 4-Month-Old Grandson Infosys Shares Worth Rs 240 Crore

It appears that the world has perhaps the richest and youngest millionaires. The co-founder of Infosys, Narayana Murthy, has gifted his four-month-old grandson 15 lakh Infosys shares valued at over Rs 240 crore.

The 77-year-old billionaire, according to regulatory filings, transferred 15 lakh shares to his grandson Ekagrah in an off-market transaction that took place on Friday. The shares are equivalent to a 0.04 percent stake in the IT giantSoon after the transaction had taken place, Narayana Murthy’s ownership in the company fell to 0.36 percent.

According to an Economic Times report, the four-month-old’s holdings amount to an astonishing Rs 240 crore, based on the current trading price of Rs 1,620 per share on the Bombay Stock Exchange.

Ekagrah is the son of Rohan Murthy and Aparna Krishnan. The third grandchild of Narayana Murthy and author-turned-Rajya Sabha member Sudha Murthy was born on November 10 in Bengaluru. The other two grandchildren of the Murthy’s are Krishna and Anoushka, the daughters of Akshata Murthy and Rishi Sunak, the British Prime Minister.

Ekagrah’s father and Harvard graduate, Rohan Murthy, has a Ph.D. in computer science. Currently, he serves as the head of Soroco, a software firm based in Boston. His wife, Aparna Murthy, is the head of Murthy Media.

Notably, Narayana Murthy stated that “nothing should be given free,” urging the public to contribute to society’s advancement in exchange for receiving subsidies and services provided by the government. In another controversial statement, the former CEO advised the youth to work 70 hours every week to boost India’s economy

Apart from Ashok Arora, all the co-founders of Infosys, established in 1981, are billionaires.
