Ola Exits Google Maps, “Used To Spend Rs 100 Crore, 0 This Month,” Says CEO Bhavish Aggarwal

Ola founder and CEO Bhavish Aggarwal announced that his company has fully exited Google Maps, reducing their annual expenditure of cloud and maps services from Rs 100 crore to zero by transitioning entirely to their in-house Ola Maps. He encouraged users to update their Ola app to access the new mapping service and mentioned that the Ola Maps API is now available on Krutrim Cloud, with additional features like street view, NERFs, indoor images, 3D maps, and drone maps coming soon.

“After Azure exit last month, we’ve now fully exited google maps. We used to spend ₹100 cr a year but we’ve made that 0 this month by moving completely to our in house Ola maps! Check your Ola app and update if needed. Also, Ola maps API available on Krutrim cloud! Many more features coming soon – street view, NERFs, indoor images, 3D maps, drone maps etc!,” Bhavish Aggarwal wrote on X.

Earlier, Ola’s migration from Microsoft’s Azure resulted in an estimated daily revenue loss of INR 5-25 lakh for the IT giant. The shift from Amazon Web Services (AWS) was projected to cost Amazon INR 30-40 lakh daily, according to Aggarwal’s disclosures on X. This migration occurred amid a dispute between Aggarwal and Microsoft-owned LinkedIn over content policy violations.
