Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh: Would technology ease and make our lives better? The popular opinion would be a yes. But, for three people in Uttar Pradesh, technological advancement turns out to be traffic. In a terrible turn of events, three people, including two brothers, lost their lives in Uttar Pradesh after their car, guided by GPS navigation, plunged off an under-construction bridge into the Ramganga River. The accident occurred around 10:00 am on the Khalpur-Dataganj road as they travelled from Bareilly to Dataganj in Badaun district.
The vehicle, a Wagon R, drove onto a damaged section of the bridge, which had collapsed earlier this year due to floods. The front portion of the bridge was missing, but this critical update had not been reflected on GPS systems. With no safety barriers or warning signs in place, the driver was misled and unable to stop the car in time. The vehicle fell 25 feet into the river, killing all three passengers instantly.
The deceased have been identified as Kaushal, Vivek, and Amit, who were returning from a wedding. Police teams from Faridpur and Dataganj recovered the bodies and sent them for post-mortem.

The victims’ family criticised local authorities, blaming their negligence for the lack of warnings on the bridge. “This fatal accident could have been prevented if safety measures were in place,” said Circle Officer Ashutosh Shivam.
The tragedy has sparked outrage on social media, with users warning against blind reliance on GPS. “Never trust Google Maps blindly,” one user commented, while another described the incident as “heartbreaking.”
