“My name is Ratan and I am starting a music company by the name of CBS India. I would like you [Nazia] and Zoheb to record an album for us if possible,” he said, the vocalist wrote.
Being excited about the news of the business man’s arrival, Nazia asked her mother if Ratan could visit them to discuss their project. For the appointment set on Friday, Ratan arrived at their home in Wimbledon, impeccably dressed and wearing a gentle smile. However, the young singers had no clue who he was, and neither did he boast about his accomplishments.
“If you guys agree then let’s make it happen. I will get someone to get in touch with you regarding the agreement. Make sure you get a lawyer and your parents to look at the agreement. If you don’t agree with anything speak to me directly,” he said.
Their initial meeting led to the production of the groundbreaking #YoungTarang album, potentially featuring the first music videos in India and South Asia, coinciding with the launch of MTV in the USA and the album was a huge success. It even outsold the iconic “Disco Deewane” at the time.
