Security Alert: Bengaluru-Bound Akasa Flight Returns To Delhi

After receiving security alert, an Akasa Air flight, QP 1335, which was flying from Delhi to Bengaluru returned to Indira Gandhi International airport Delhi. The flight, which took from Delhi, carrying 174 passengers, 3 infants and 7 crew members on board, received a security alert, as per an airline official and an Emergency Response teams was monitoring the situation and had advised the pilot to divert the flight to Indira Gandhi International Airport with abundant precaution. Reports said the flight had a safe landing in Delhi approximately at 14:00 hours.

“Akasa Air flight QP 1335, flying from Delhi to Bengaluru on October 16, 2024, and carrying 174 passengers, 3 infants and 7 crew members on board, received a security alert. The Akasa Air Emergency Response teams are monitoring the situation and have advised the pilot to divert the flight to Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi with abundant precaution. The Captain is following all required emergency procedures for a safe landing in Delhi and the estimated time of arrival is approximately 14:00 hrs,” an earlier statement from an Akasa Air Spokesperson read.

The incident had occurred just days after seven flights including one bound to United States were redirected due to bomb-threat messages. Including Akasa, this would be the twelfth flight of Indian carrier to receive bomb threat over the past three days. Three international flights- one of Air India and two of IndiGo had received bomb threats on Monday. And another eight flights had received on Tuesday via social media platforms which was eventually proven it to be fake.

According Akasa Air, the captain following all the emergency procedure at the time had diverted the flight to Delhi and landed safely at Indira Gandhi International Airport at 1:48 pm. The airline spokesperson has assured that they would monitor the situation in coordination with the local authorities and will assist the passengers to ensure their safety and comfort.

The aircraft, passengers and their bags were screened by security agencies as per the protocol. After the security check, if the threat is found as hoax, the aircraft would be released for operations.
