Google is to have a new India Public Policy Head. Sreenivasa Reddy, ex-Apple executive, who has also been with major headline hitting companies such as Microsoft, Apple, Ericsson and Aircel has joined Google as the Managing Director – Government Affairs and Public Policy, India, Mr. Reddy posted in his Linkedin profile.

The announcement through his Linkedin page as a part of Google workforce comes after the resignation of Archana Gulati, who was the former Public Policy head at Google. Ms. Gulati had resigned few months back from the position.

The appointment of Mr. Reddy comes in the midst of anti-trust issues that Google is facing in the US with allegations that the tech giant is violating regulations and illegally garnering a monopoly in the search engine matters.

In his Linkedin page, he has written that he is excited to be joining Google as the Public Policy Head and that he has “long admired Google”s commitment to innovation and its mission to organize the world”s information and make it universally accessible and useful.”

In India, he said, that it can be seen clearly in the “access to the internet” which is “affordable and easier through Android or creating a vibrant creator ecosystem across the length and breadth of the country.”

India was at a critical stage in the country’s digital journey, with rapid adoption of latest technology by its young and growing population, he said, adding that, “India has huge potential to become a global leader in the digital economy.” While saying this, he also acknowledged the challenges faced by the country such as – “equitable digital transformation or protecting the privacy and security of our users or leveraging the talent in the market,” he added.

Before winding up his post, he said that he “believe that Google has a unique opportunity to play a role in addressing these challenges and helping India achieve its full digital potential” and that he is committed to working with the Government of India and others involved, so as to develop policies and programmes that would bring in innovation, growth and social inclusion, building Google partnership with India’s growth.
