Vinay Hiremath, the Indian origin co-founder of Loom, a video-sharing platform, discloses that he is struggling to find purpose in life after selling his company. Last October, he sold the startup to Atlassian, an Australian software company for a whopping $ 975 million. In the blog post titled, “I am rich and have no idea what to do with my life”, Hiremath detailed the feeling of insecurities stemmed after amassing wealth.
Hiremath co-founded Loom with Shahed Khan and Joe Thomas in 2015 in San Francisco, California. After the acquisition, as per Hindustan Times reports, the three founders of Loom has earned $ 300 million ( ₹2,500 crore). During his tenure at the company, Hiremath served as the company’s Chief Technical Officer (CTO).

In the blog post, Hiremath described how life has felt like a “haze” over the last year. “After selling my company, I find myself in the totally un-relatable position of never having to work again. Everything feels like a side quest, but not in an inspiring way. I don’t have the same base desires driving me to make money or gain status,” he wrote.
Despite possessing infinite freedom, he has been struggling to find ‘what to do with it’, and he does not feel very ‘optimistic’ about life.
The US-based businessman also revealed even though he was offered a $60 million compensation package to stay as CTO, he chose to turn it down, after struggling with the decision for while. Hiremath detailed a series of attempts he made to find purpose in life including exploring opportunities in Robotics, traveling with his girlfriend, and to climb Himalayas without any prior experience.

Hiremath has also shared about how his insecurities affected personal life, leading to breakup with his girlfriend of two years. Referring the relationship as one of “unconditional life”, he describe the breakup was “extremely painful, but it was the right call.” Apologising to is girlfriend, he wrote: “If my ex is reading this. Thank you for everything. I am sorry I couldn’t be what you needed me to be.”
Hiremath is currently staying in Hawaii and studying physics. While thinking about his next steps, he concludes that he doesn’t have a clear plan, and is learning to accept the present state.
