AIMSA Writes To Increase J&K MBBS Interns' Stipend; Cites Disparity With Other States
The All India Medical Students’ Association (AIMSA) has written a letter to J&K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah requesting his intervention to increase the MBBS interns’ stipend in J&K. The AIMSA Vice President has addressed the letter to the CM Abdullah and mentioned the J&K MBBS stipend issue, which is more than half below the stipend of other students.
Notably, the J&K MBBS interns are getting a stipend of only Rs 12,00o per month, despite the repeated assurance over the past 6 years. The AIMSA VC has written that no substantial progress was made, leaving the young medical graduates to struggle financially.

It mentioned that in comparison, the J&K MBBS interns in other states, such as Bihar, have enhanced the stipend to Rs 27,000 per month, acknowledging their contribution and hard work. Whereas J&K has lagged far behind in creating an atmosphere of disparity and neglect, the letter mentions.
“We sincerely request your intervention in this matter, so that the government expedites the process and ensures that stipends are enhanced at par with other states without further delay. We also urge the authorities to examine all possible mechanisms to address this long-pending demand”, the AIMSA wrote.
