Applications Invited Under Pradhan Mantri Uchchatar Shiksha Protsahan (PM-USP)

Edited by Uzma Parveen

Ministry of Education invited applications under the Pradhan Mantri Uchchatar Shiksha Protsahan (PM-USP) a Central Sector Scheme of Scholarship through the National Scholarship Portal (NSP). Applicants have the option to reapply or renew their scholarships.

Given that many qualified applicants in the years 2023–2024 have not yet had their scholarships renewed, the option to reapply was created. “Students who missed to apply for renewal of application online on NSP will be allowed to apply for renewal of scholarship for subsequent year on NSP, if he/she fulfils eligibility condition for renewal”, official notification says.

In order to verify their eligibility with legitimate documentation for the scholarship renewal, applicants may contact the Ministry through online portal. They become eligible for renewal in the academic year 2023–2024 according to the Ministry of Education.

Under the public notification, ministry has requested Higher Educational Institutions (HEIs) to spread awareness about the PM-USP scheme through appropriate measures about the recent invite. The promotion’s primary goal through HEIs is to spread knowledge throughout the student body so that as many students as possible can take advantage of the program’s benefits.

Notice that the PM-USP aims to ensure government’s objective that no student is denied to pursue higher education. To achieve this, Department of Higher Education (DHE) launched PM-USP to provide financial assistance to students from economically weak background. National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 also envisages improvement of Gross Enrolment Ration in higher education to 50% by the year 2035.

To materialise this objective, PM-USP was launched with 3 components, namely,

  • Central Sector Scheme of Scholarship (CSSS) for College and University Students
  • Special Scholarship Scheme for Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh
  • Central Sector Interest Subsidy Scheme (CSIS) and Credit Guarantee Fund Scheme for Education Loan (CGFSEL)
