‘Gaumutra’ or cow urine, has ‘anti-bacterial’ and ‘anti-fungal’ properties which can heal a variety of illnesses, including IBS, or irritable Bowel Syndrome, said IIT Madras Director, V Kamakoti. Prof. Kamakoti had earlier said that the medicinal findings of cow urine have been scientifically demonstrated in top US journals.

Prof. Kamakoti whose research area includes computational geometry, mentioned the research findings that presented simple methods for the discovery of thousands of endogenous peptides in cow urine that contribute to various bioactivities associated with urine. The said research also provided evidence for the peptide-mediated antimicrobial activity against E.coli and S. aureus but more experiments are needed to validate other predicted bioactivities.

In a viral video, the IITM Director while speaking at a Pongal event, told a story of a sanyasi with high fever, who was cured within 15 minutes after consuming Cow urine. Kamakoti said that ‘gaumutra’ is a big medicine and the anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties of cow urine are good for digestive and stomach problems for IBS and for many other other illness.
