Due to incessant rainfall, Pondicherry University has postponed the exams scheduled to be held on Monday, January 8, 2023. As per the announcement, the changed exam date will be notified later.
Since the university will remain closed on Monday, the holiday shall be compensated by working on any Saturday and will be informed accordingly, the notice said.
The heavy rains prompted administrations to declare holiday for schools and colleges in several districts in Tamil Nadu include Cuddalore, Villupuram, Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam, Vellore, Ranipet, Tiruvannamalai, Tiruvarur, Kallakurichi and Chengalpattu on January 8. Rains in Chennai and resultant waterlogging posed several traffic jams across its all major routes on Sunday. Besides, traffic disruptions recorded in Mayiladuthurai, and Velachery Main Road.
The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) in Chennai has predicted rains over various districts in Tamil Nadu for the next seven days, ANI reports.
“Light to Moderate rain with occasional intense spells accompanied with thunderstorms and lightning is very likely to continue over the coastal districts of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal and light rain accompanied with thunderstorms and lightning during day time, today,” India Meteorological Department (IMD) observed.
“Strong Easterly/Northeasterly Winds are prevailing in lower tropospheric levels with the favourable conditions for moisture incursion from Bay of Bengal over Tamil Nadu leading to current spell of rainfall over the region, it added.
