Heavy Rainfall Creates Flood-like Situation In Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu (image:pixabay)

The continuous downpours in various regions of Tamil Nadu caused flood-like situation, especially in Tirunelveli. The India Meteorological Department (IMD), weather forecasting agency, predicted heavy outpouring of rain in over 10 districts of Tamil Nadu for next few days.

The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) predicted heavy to very heavy rain over Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Theni, Dindigul, Sivagangai and Pudukottai districts and thunderstorm with moderate rain at a few places over Sivagangai, Pudukottai, Ramanathapuram, Theni to Dindigul, Madurai, Coimbatore, Virudhunagar, Tenkasi, Thirunelveli Thoothukudi, Kanniyakumari and at isolated places over Tiruvallur, Chennai, Chengalpattu, Kanchipuram, Ranipettai, Vellore, Thirupattur, and Thiruvannamalai districts of Tamil Nadu.

Due to heavy rainfall, district administrations declared the schools in Tirunelveli, Tenkasi, Theni, Thoothukudi, Kanniyakumari and Virudhunagar remain closed on Thursday.

Similarly, heavy rains affect the southern state of Kerala as well. The weather forecasting agency suggests the possibility of heavy rains in isolated regions in Kerala until November 24. The weather department had issued a red alert for Pathanamthitta on Wednesday; it was issued in the purview of continuous downpour resulting small floods, landslides, and mudslides. Red alert restriction is also released on the the districts of Thiruvananthapuram and Idukki on Thursday. The weather forecasters also suggested that cyclonic circulations over Tamil Nadu may result moderate to medium rainfall followed by thunder and lightning in Kerala over the next few days.
